Don’t fry for it: security grilles and warm weather

SECURITY GRILLES IN WARM WEATHER AS PART OF A HEAT AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Last Friday, 29th May 2020, was National Heat Awareness day or #NoFryDay. It’s a day to highlight the risks of heat-induced illness to help prevent suffering in warmer weather as the temperatures continue to soar. We’d like to encourage all our employees, clients, and stakeholders to ensure sufficient consumption of water in the hot days ahead to stay hydrated, and liberal application of sun cream to protect your skin.

SECURITY IN THE WARM WEATHER

Since we’re talking about heat awareness and warm weather, we also thought it’d be good to touch on personal safety and security around your home and business. As the heat strikes, more people begin leaving windows and doors/patio doors wide open to combat the stifling office or home space. Nobody likes to work in an oven so it’s certainly a good thing to do to achieve cooler temperatures if you have no air-conditioning system. However, you should also be vigilant and aware of what’s happening around you, as thieves often target open doors and windows as a means to gain easy access to your building.

Some ways of increasing security while allowing ventilation include security grilles, air-conditioning, opening windows only slightly onto lock, and remaining vigilant when windows and doors are opening/always having someone present in the room that has the windows and doors open. Although there are different ways, security grilles provide a popular alternative to give reassurance and peace of mind. We look at some of the ways of securing yourself in hot weather in more depth below.

SECURITY GRILLES IN WARM WEATHER

Security grilles allow free flow of natural air while also ensuring security remains in place. Security grilles can be locked in place while the window or door is open, but high volumes of air can still flow between the gaps in the metal lattices, working well to cool down your home or business. Security grilles are a popular choice where expense is considered as they are a lot less costly than air-conditioning systems and don’t require high maintenance and regular servicing.

If you’re worried about the appearance of a security grille, then rest assured we have you covered. These security grilles are aesthetically pleasing with the option of an attractive curved lattice design if you opt for the CX2 security grille. Security grilles are also available in a wide range of different colours to match your existing décor and can retract back to a fraction of their size.

AIR-CONDITIONING IN WARM WEATHER RATHER THAN SECURITY GRILLES

Air-conditioning is another popular choice as it means doors and windows don’t need to be open to have access to cold air, and you can set a required temperature. However, air-conditioning systems can be pricey to buy and install and, on top of that, require regular servicing and replacement parts. They can also rack up the electricity bill depending on how often they are used and have been proven to have some negative health consequences such as dry skin and headaches. As security grilles have no mechanical parts, they are a lot more cost effective.

VIGILANCE AND WINDOW LOCK IN HOT WEATHER RATHER THAN SECURITY GRILLES

You could always leave windows and doors open and be extra vigilant – making sure someone always remains in the room . However, this is not often practical, especially if you’re at home by yourself. There will be times that room is unoccupied while you go to the kitchen for a drink etc. presenting an opportunity. Thieves act fast and an open door or window is too good to pass up on. Of course, you could always put windows on lock, but this means only a tiny amount of air will be allowed to circulate. This is why security grilles can give you peace of mind and that extra layer of security if you’re worried about leaving your doors and windows open.
